That's not true.
My brother's fiance and I went bridesmaid dress shopping today. We went to three stores, and didn't find anything. So we went across the street to the upscale section of the mall (yes, two separate malls with the "everyman" and "rich bitch" types, in different malls, but they consider themselves two parts of one mall). And went to the Macy's bridal salon.
There was another family (daughter, mother, and grandmother) being helped while the fiance and I went hunting for dresses. Because I'm a small size, we figured it would be easier if I tried on the dresses and they were clipped to fit. Every dress had to be clipped a fairly significant amount.
Eventually, the woman helping the fiance and I asked me "What size do you usually wear? A 0?" I said "A 2." I didn't mean to be show-offy. I just meant to correct her. The mother of the other group said "Oh, well you could wear anything you wanted to in here."
I quickly replied that I don't, and that there are many things I can't wear because I'm petite all around. They laughed it off.
That wasn't the first time I've heard "You'll look good in anything." There are people my family is friends with that say I will. I have friends that say it. And this wasn't the first time I've heard strangers telling me this.
I know I should be flattered. But when you hear it enough, it stops being a compliment and starts being an annoyance. People don't realize that there aren't people that look good in anything they wear. It just doesn't exist.
Oh, and as an aside- we found a bridesmaid dress that we think will look good on all of the bridesmaids (I've tried to convince her to do separates, and I really liked a one-piece!). Take a look-

Pretty, isn't it?

A friend at work wears a size 2. She gets aggravated because she either has to pay a fortune to find clothes that really fit correctly, or get them tailored.
PS: Great choice in the attendants' dress selection!
